If we’re being entirely honest, Germany is one of the few European countries where you can get around without speaking a word of the local language. While it’s true most Germans speak excellent English, it doesn’t hurt to make an effort to learn German as natives would appreciate the effort you’ve put into learning a bit of their language.
Now we know the German language has a reputation for not being the most audibly pleasing lingo in town but it’s all about perspective. After all, some of the most brilliant minds in history spoke, wrote, composed and invented in that language – Albert Einstein, Richard Wagner, Beethoven and Immanuel Kant are just a few of the names that come to mind. What’s more, learning German will mean you can not only navigate Germany, but Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and some pockets of Belgium and Northern Italy.
